It seems we used to have seasons that were busy and those that were not. But as the pace increases, the down times are fewer and far between. This year showed us that Christmas has nothing on May and the end of school year activities. Followed by a really fun and crazy-busy kick off to summer. Our July that was blank filled rapidly and we find ourselves heading back into the school year needing an extra family calendar just to ensure there is coverage between conferences for me and vacation with my sister’s family, trips to visit family out of state, usual work trips and helping care for the sweetest old Marine that’s facing chemo treatments like it’s a Tuesday.
I’m afraid, at least for now + our family, gone are the days of things being slow. And for now, that’s okay. I know that things are perfect in God’s timing. Three years ago, we wouldn’t have been able to handle the swirl and bustle. Now, we’re ready for it. Life is getting easier, the kids are getting older, our faith is stronger.
I’m often asked how I keep track of it all? Honestly, I don’t. It’s a team effort and I’m thankful for my crew. I know that without a plan, without being intentional–days and weeks get lost in the mix. Then there are days where, this rang so true to me recently, a friend reminded me:
The most productive thing you can do today is pray.
Give it to God. Give Him your to-do list and ask Him to help you prioritize. Review the items with Him and listen to see which are things He’s asking you partner with Him on? Which are the items that fulfill a piece of your kingdom work? Sometimes, it’s big. Launching your website, finishing proofs for a new product offering, paying off that loan. Sometimes, it’s big in a different way. Taking lunch to that friend that just lost her mom. Running in the sprinklers with your littles. A bubble bath, alone, in silence. Either way, it’s all kingdom work. And it’s very important. So while you’re busy being busy, don’t let it be a swirl of chaos. Be intentional. Be productive. Be strategic. And most importantly, pray. It is the most productive thing you can do each day.
